The zoo care center - SOS Faune Sauvage Antilles-Guyane

SOS Faune Sauvage is an association dedicated to wild animals in the Antilles and Guyana.
Its objective: to collect, care for and rehabilitate injured or endangered species, in order to preserve local biodiversity.

More than 20 years of commitment to wildlife

Created in 2001, the association intervenes every day to take care of wild animals that are sick, injured, victims of collisions, or seized by State services.

Each individual receives the necessary care before being placed under observation in the “hospital” area by our veterinarian. As soon as the animal is deemed able to feed itself and to protect itself from predators, it is released into its natural environment.

Some individuals have physical and/or psychological sequelae and can no longer survive alone in their natural environment. In this case, SOS Faune Sauvage ensures that they are welcomed in approved structures.

Missions of the care center

The center is not a place of captivity, but a temporary passage for animals. Its missions revolve around several axes:

  • Welcoming and caring
  • Ensuring suitable accommodation
  • Preparing for the return to wildlife
  • Raising public awareness

The actions carried out by SOS Faune Sauvage

Each year, several hundred animals are taken care of by SOS Faune Sauvage. In 2023-2024, more than 350 animals were collected, the majority of which were birds. A few striking examples illustrate this work:

The giant otter “Ermine”: the survivor of a group of four, she joined an international reintroduction program in Argentina.

A pair of blue macaws: deposited by an individual had cut off their feathers to prevent them from flying. They regained their ability to fly after a feather transplant performed with the help of several zoological partners.

These rescues demonstrate the diversity of situations encountered and the importance of the actions carried out daily by the association.
